What no one tells you about cosmetic surgery

So many people in the world today are conscious about their physical appearances, and if they had more money, they would do cosmetic surgery to enhance and beautify how they look.

Cosmetic surgery is done to improve a person's appearance, self-confidence, and self-esteem. It is done on the face or in different parts of the body. E.g making the buttocks larger.

Cosmetic surgery will definitely beautify your look, but if it is not done right, you will suffer some health complications.

There are different types of cosmetic surgery on the face. Some of them are Cheek lift, Botox, Chemical peel, Cosmetic dentistry, Chin surgery, Dermabrasion, Blepharoplasty, Browlift, Facial contouring, laser air removal, Neck lift, etc.

Some of the cosmetic surgery usually done for the body are Tummy tuck, liposuction, Breast Lift, Breast Augmentation, Buttock lift, Inner thigh lift, etc.

Health complications of cosmetic surgery

Cosmetic surgery is risky. People who have lung disease, obesity or diabetes have a higher risk of suffering from complications after the surgery. Blood clots in the lungs and legs, pneumonia and stroke are some of the health complications involved.

Let's take a detailed look at these complications:

Hematoma

This is a pocket of blood that might occur after a breast augmentation. It might also occur after a facelift surgery.

During treatment, additional operations would be carried out to drain the blood, especially when the blood is large.

Blood Loss

Definitely, most surgeries will involve a blood loss, however, when that blood loss becomes uncontrollable, then something has gone wrong. Blood loss can lead to a drop in blood pressure which can cause death.
Blood Loss can happen during the operation or after the surgery, internally. This can be very dangerous.

Seroma

This is another cosmetic surgery complication, whereby sterile body fluid or serum gathers under the surface of the skin, causing severe pains and swelling. This happens mostly after a tummy tuck.

Infection

Contacting an infection is a very common cosmetic surgery complication, especially after a breast augmentation is done.

Cellulitis, a skin infection may occur after cosmetic surgery. This infection can be internal and will require immediate treatment. Intravenous antibiotics will be administered to the patient.

Organ damage

Liposuction can become a traumatic experience if not done properly, the internal organs will suffer. When internal organs and surgical probes come into contact, punctures or visceral perforations can occur. These injuries will require another operation or surgery.

Nerve damage

This is a common complication in different surgeries. Tingling and numbness can be felt after surgery is done. These are signs of nerve damage.

Pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) happens when blood clots form in deep veins, especially in the leg. Later on, these clots break off and move to the lungs, which is known as pulmonary embolism.

Anesthesia complications

The use of medications to cause unconsciousness during surgery is known as anesthesia. This can be dangerous to some patients.

It could cause stroke, lung infection, heart attack and even death. Anesthesia can cause a patient to vomit, shiver and also, wake up in a confused state.

Cosmetic surgery is good but should be done in a reputable clinic, by a trained and experienced surgeon with good remarks on his/her job.

Also, know your health status before embarking on the surgery to avoid severe health complications and even death.

Until then take care of yourself.
